Guanine quadruplexes (G4s) are non-Watson-Crick four-stranded nucleic acid structures held together by noncanonical G-G base tetrads. Recent studies indicate their existence in vivo and their involvement in various biological processes.1) Phen-DC3 is a guanine quadruplex (G4) specific ligand that can inhibit helicases such as FANCJ that unwind G4 DNA. 2,3) FANCJ inhibitors have been used in cancer research because FANCJ mutations are associated with cancer.
