Cepharanthine: An Alkaloid with Multiple Pharmacological Properties
Cepharanthine is a naturally occurring alkaloid contained in the plant Stephania cepharantha HAYATA which has been widely used as a herb to treat a variety of diseases, and as an antidote against the poison of snakes. It has been reported that cepharanthine exerts multiple pharmacological properties including anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory, immuno-regulatory, anti-cancer, anti-viral and anti-parasitic properties with multifactorial mechanisms.1-3) Recently, it has also been reported that cepharanthine or combining cepharanthine/nelfinavir [N0986] enhanced their predicted efficacy to control coronavirus proliferation, including SARS-CoV-2.4,5) (The product is for research purpose only.)
